Elders Program

WHY was the Elders Program established?

The Elders Program was established for Yamatji Nation Elders to provide some support in times of hardship from the Yamatji Nation Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) as ILUA benefits such as economic and business opportunities can be longer term and may not help Elders in the shorter term.

WHO is eligible?

The Elders Program is available to all Yamatji Nation Elders that are current YSRC Members.  You must have turned 60 years age during the respective financial year to receive the benefit.

WHAT does the Elders Program provide?

The Elders Program provides Yamatji Nation Elders with a Gift Card with a limit of up to $1,000.00 per financial year to use for services, transport and goods that assist in meeting the needs of old age and for relief of poverty and hardship. The Gift Card is granted to the Yamatji Nation Elders on an annual basis and can be used for any purchases where a credit / debit card is accepted but cannot be used to withdraw cash or purchase other gift cards or online.

HOW to apply:

  • If you are a current member and have turned 60 years of age you must complete the new Members – Elders form with ID showing your date of birth.
  • If you are an Elder and already applied and approved with provided ID, then you do not need to re-apply. The Elders Program gift card will automatically be sent out via registered post for the following financial year.
  • All new Elders Program applicants will need to complete the Members-Elders Application form and submit to the YSRC Office in Geraldton with some form of ID showing their date of birth.
  • YSRC will process the application form ensuring all required information is provided and given to the YSRC Board for final approval. .
  • Once approved, YSRC will send a letter of approval to Elders.
  • Gift Cards will be sent out via registered post for safety which receiver must show ID and sign for.
  • The Elders Program started mid-January 2022.
