Yamatji Conservation Estate
Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), will spend $22M over 10 years on the creation and management of the Yamatji Conservation Estate which includes:
New and existing Conservation Park and National Park areas and some jointly managed areas (Schedule 14).
Ex-pastoral leases, incorporating approximately 470,000 hectares of land.
Joint vesting of the new Conservation Park areas, as well as some existing Conservation areas, including Beekeeper’s Reserve, Utcha Well Nature Reserve, and Wandana Nature Reserve.
10 Rangers working on Country for 5 years employed through DBCA.
The Conservation Estate will be jointly managed by representatives from DBCA and the Regional Corporation (8 Traditional Owner Representatives), through a Joint Management Body.
A management plan will be developed and applied to the whole of the Estate. The development of the management plan has commenced and is expected to take 2-3 years to develop. The Management Plan once completed will be guide for the future management of the Conservation Estate.
