Yamatji Conservation Estate (YCE)

In addition to the Yamatji Land Estate the ILUA provides for the creation of new conservation areas and joint management of the new and existing conservation reserves with the Yamatji Nation through YSRC and the Joint Management Body which has two representatives from each of the four cultural committees.

Key components of the YCE are:

  • An extensive list of additional conservation reserves and joint management of new and existing areas (Schedule 14).
  • 14 Ranger and Ranger Supervisor positions, which will commence with the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) before transferring to YSRC after 5 years.
  • A Joint Manager Officer position at YSRC.
  • DBCA will spend $22 million over ten years on the YCE.
