Wattandee Elders Connect Day

18 September 2022

The Wattandee Elders Connect Day 2022 was the first event organised by Wattandee Littlewell (Buri Wonduri) Aboriginal Corporation and supported by the Shire of Mingenew to heal and empower our Wattandee elders.

The day started with a smoking ceremony performed by Wattandee Elder and Spokesperson Thomas Cameron. A performance led by Keesha Forrest Pananka saw 3 generations of Wattandee Women dance back on Wattandee country at Buri Wonduri (Littlewell Aboriginal Reserve).

Our future generations also showcased our future Wattandee dancers with their performance led by Jannell Reeka Mongoo.

The Elders of the day had an opportunity to share their knowledge, stories of country with our families and guests Cynthia Esther Marie Indich and Taj Moncrieff from NACC and Doyen Radcliffe and Deb Spittle Community First.

We also had the opportunity to speak about the stolen generation and how it affected our Elders, this part of the day was very emotional for all but also allowed healing for all who attended.

Well done to all involved !
